FAQs about Yogi Way’s mat-floor

Q: Why did you choose the mat-floor over individual mats on hard wood?
Over the years, I have taken and taught yoga classes, workshops, and retreat across the US continent and abroad. Every space has its own charm and beauty, but a few concerns of mine were never really answered, until we examined and re-examined the possibility of a single mat-floor…

Hygiene
Travel light!
Earth friendly
Effective, spatial dynamic practice
Freedom

If a mind/body connection does exist as in the alternative medicine and ancient spiritual tradition, then why do we agree to confine our practice within a size of a single mat? What is the deeper effect of our mind and spirit if we are always facing one direction when we practice?

Q: I take my personal mat to classes. How hygienic is Yogi Way’s mat- floor?
In fact, our mat-floor is easier to clean than several individual personal or studio loaned mats. Plus, you can simplify your life and save time from having to clean your own mat, and trust in knowing that the Yogi Way studio provides a clean and germ-free mat-floor. We also deep clean the mat seams with anti-bacterial wipes regularly. The Yogi Way mat-floor is cleaned and disinfected after each class with an environmentally safe pure alcohol & tea tree extract cleanser. We provide eco-wipe for students to wipe their feet prior to practice.

Poreless material, so you no longer have to practice on a surface that has been soaked with sweat and germs

Hygienically, using a personal mat is preferable then a public mat. However, it is really not ideal unless the studio floor is sanitized after each class. When we roll up the mat at the end of class. We are picking up germs that have previously existed on the floor. Unless you sanitize and dry your personal mat both the top and bottom surfaces, you are “saving” and “brewing” the germs on your mat every single time. Psychologically, we might feel that our personal sweat and germs are cleaner, but that might not be so in reality.

The no-slip Yogi Way mat-floor provides you with many benefits

On Yogi Way’s mat-floor, you will no longer be limited by the spatial confident of a single mat. Instead, you’ll experience more ease of movement across a wider, multi-dimensional space, a lucid circular passage, facing North, East, South, West, through your asanas and vinyasas.

Extra firmness and cushioning for headstands and shoulder stands, for bony backs in rolling, for floating from uttanasana to plank, as well as shock absorption and comfort for joints and knees.

Students feel safe to practice new inversions and arm balances, plus innovative vinyasa, since the fear of falling is no longer an issue

Reinforcing one’s inner stability and harmony with practicing and mastering the bandha engagements, or muscular locks. This mat encourages practitioner to articulate the firming of the joints in arm and one legged balance poses. This process allow one to perfect a sense of lightness while mastering one’s grounding force

Teaching style and pedagogy

Multi-Dimensional, Mandala Vinyasa, Yantra Vinyasa are some of Yogi Way specialtes. These dynamic practices challenge the students’ comfort zone in their spatial orientation. This method aims to reunites the practitioner’s innate longing for a deeper balance. It also allows one to rotate and turn on the physical level – like the movement of prana or the flow of the ocean waves. In a way, all things in nature grow and flow on a multi-dimensional level. This type of practice is ideal to stimulate one’s inner growth and freedom in fashion that resembles the inclination of nature.

A precisely designed multi-dimensional sequence (known as digital balancing) creates an overall experience that stimulates the practitioner to reconfigurate a sense of equilibrium, both on the mental and energetic levels.

Supports complex sequencing, maximizing the artistry of teaching as well as providing great support for the inventive yogi to explore more flexible space in the creation of new asanas.

Less waste for earth

Most of yoga mats contain polyvinyl cholorides (PVCs) that are destructive to the environment, and potentially to the health of chemically sensitive practitioners. The mat-floor at Yogi Way will last for years, and does not contain PVCs. It eliminates the need to replace worn out mats thereby doubly helping the environment by reducing the need for new products, as well as producing less waste for landfills.

What is Yogi Way’s mat-floor made of?

The polyurethane foam padding is a Healthier Choice brand floor mat and is hypo-allergenic, sealed with a waterproof, sunproof, no-slip and quick-dry vinyl covering and set upon a hardwood surface. The health friendly material does not emit fumes or unpleasant smell. It is ideal for people with environmental / chemical sensitivities. The quick drying surface is poreless, waterproof, therefore it does not absorb any sweat or germs.

How can you help…

We ask our students to take a moment to wipe their feet (eco-wipe provided) before entering the practice space. Please help us keep our mat-floor in perfect condition for years to come by removing sharp jewelry, rings, dangly earrings and any metal objects that might puncture the top layer. In general, your yoga practice will be safer and more fluid without sharp and/or dangling jewelry.

Reap the subtle nectar of a multidimensional balance that can ultimately be realized in daily life and enjoy your boundless practice!
